Learn the theory and the practice of how to support a child’s healthy development, then fly ahead to the world of education.

As today’s society has become increasingly complex, a number of problems have arisen which could prove disruptive to a child’s mental and physical development. These difficult situations often require professionals who can search for possible comprehensive solutions.

Therefore, the Department of Educational and Developmental Science provides the academic background with which students can analyze the crucial stages surrounding a child’s development, in the modern world. By engaging in active research in disciplines such as pedagogy, subject pedagogy, psychology, and early childhood care and education, students will be able to objectively explore the processes that could lead to solutions, to the above mentioned problems.

Furthermore, by coordinating closely with the field of welfare science, the course also attempts to reflect upon the position of welfare and education in schools. This cutting edge approach encourages undergraduates to consider both the child’s development and the available accompanying support - along with the diverse range of knowledge and skills, associated with welfare and education.

The syllabus is systematically arranged in its lectures and seminars, to enable students to study a wide spectrum of areas, including not only the relationship between development and welfare, but in addition, early childhood care and education, primary education, and adult education.

The program therefore offers a wide variety of subjects to appeal to each individual student’s interests, allowing them to select from a large array of choices.

The Department of Educational and Developmental Science encourages strong ties among the classmates and faculty. This is attributable to its unique, small class setting with a homelike atmosphere, where we can freely exchange views in class. In the departmental seminars held in the summer and winter, there are many opportunities to interact, not only with your classmates but also with upper- and underclassmen as well. In addition to in-depth practical learning through training, there are theoretical classes in education and childcare. Through learning from the theoretical and practical aspects, we've gained the ability to see education and childcare from a variety of perspectives. We think that those who are still unsure of their futures can expand on their interests during their university lives, discovering a path that suits them best from among several alternatives. In fact, the way forward varies depending on each person, including those who aim to become teachers or nursery teachers, or those who want to pursue further study.
