As a public university in Aichi Prefecture, the modernized Aichi Prefectural University aims to develop independent citizens who will contribute to both global and local communities. School of Foreign Studies Admission Policy

The School of Foreign Studies fosters individuals who will widely contribute to both local and global communities, where globalization and multicultural coexistence are socially desired.

The school is divided into four departments: British and American Studies, European Studies (French-speaking, German-speaking, and Spanish-speaking countries), Chinese Studies, and International and Cultural Studies. Students in each department are required to gain a high practical level of proficiency in a foreign-language, mainly English, French, Spanish, Spanish, and Chinese. Through the use of acquired language skills, students will study regional communities and their cultures, or the way the global community exists, in order to develop a higher knowledge and a deeper understanding of different cultures as well as a sound perception of their own.

The school aims to furnish true cosmopolitans with rich communication skills to help achieve a “global multicultural coexistence.”

To achieve the above-mentioned objectives, the School of Foreign Studies is looking for students who:

have a basic language learning ability and a strong interest in foreign languages, different cultures, international issues, or international exchanges, and are motivated to contribute to the development of both local and global communities through learning a specialized subject - as well as a wide-ranging and profound general knowledge.

have a basic scholastic ability, are proficient in English , are especially able to think logically, and are capable of learning Japanese written discourse.

School of Japanese Studies Admission Policy

The School of Japanese Studies consists of two departments which explores Japanese culture from different aspects - as suggested by their names. These are the Department of Japanese Language and Literature, and the Department of Japanese History and Culture.

The fields studied within the Department of Japanese Language and Literature, include not just those of Japan’s language and literature, but also Classical Chinese literature. From the study of these literary cultures, students will develop a high level of knowledge and a profound understanding of Japan’s traditions and heritage, today.

By appreciating the distinct and universal nature of Japanese language and literature, individuals are also encouraged to develop their abilities on speculation and assessment to determine the real world around them - which would lead to a cultivated and well- balanced understanding.

The Department of Japanese History and Culture offers courses in Japanese History and Culture, where students analyze Japanese culture and society, past and present, and the Japanese Society and Culture, where students explore modern Japanese culture and society, from a number of perspectives.

By accomplishing an insight into Japanese culture from various historical angles, students will gain skills in logical thinking, which would become the foundation of their public lives after graduation.

To achieve the above-mentioned objective, the Department of Japanese History and Culture is looking for students who:

have a solid Japanese language skill and a strong interest in the languages, literature and histories of both their home countries and others, and are aspiring to contribute to their native communities through the acquisition of specialist knowledge - in addition to a wide-ranging yet in-depth general knowledge.

have a basic scholastic ability - especially in social studies, logical thought, Japanese language and written discourse.

School of Education and Welfare Admission Policy

A critical issue in the fields of education and welfare in the present day, lies in how to establish “development and dignity” for an entire lifetime. The School of Education and Welfare provides tuition and research dedicated to securing this “development and dignity”, and is composed of two departments: the Department of Educational and Developmental Science and the Department of Welfare Science.

The Department of Educational and Developmental Science offers academic courses in Pedagogy, Subject Pedagogy, Psychology, and Child-care and Education. This department aims to encourage competent professionals in the areas of child development and child development support. This would be accomplished through an objective exploration of the various intricate issues which could be harmful to the mental and physical development of children in contemporary society, and in considering possible solutions for these issues - not only within schools, but also in the context of local communities.

The Department of Welfare Science offers courses in Social Welfare, Sociology, and Psychology.
The Department aims to develop professionals who will be able to provide comprehensive assistance and will promote community welfare, so that welfare service users can live with as much independence and dignity, as their circumstances allows. This would include the understanding of both community welfare issues and the coordination and development of social resources.

To achieve the above-mentioned objectives, the School of Education and Welfare is looking for students who:

have a basic academic ability, especially in Japanese language and written discourse in addition to another foreign language, combined with the desire to learn and the capacity to think logically, and are interested in a career in the fields of education, child-care development, or social welfare.

are highly motivated with a strong desire to contribute to local communities, through an interest in trying to solve the problems facing modern society, the areas of education, child-care development and social welfare.

School of Nursing & Health Admission Policy

The School of Nursing & Health aims to cultivate in its students concern and compassion for all people, and to develop professionals who can make scientific, logical, and ethical judgments in health and medical care, home, and community settings based on mutual relationships of trust. Our students will grow to become outstanding nursing professionals in the international and aging societies of the 21st century.
In working toward this, students develop the ability to think logically and solve problems scientifically, the ability to understand people holistically and comprehensively and provide nursing with consideration for the quality of life of each individual, the ability to act based on scientific evidence, the ability to serve a coordinating role as a nursing professional within the overall health, medical, and welfare system, and the ability to contribute to the maintenance and promotion of people’s health in an international society.

To achieve the above goals, the School of Nursing & Health is looking for students who:

School of Information Science and Technology Admission Policy

The School of Information Science and Technology provides students with a basic knowledge in these two fields - taking advantage of Aichi Prefecture being a worldwide industrial and manufacturing region. The program is designed to produce future information system engineers, who are capable of responding to the rapid changes in information technology, and of supporting companies that rely on advanced information technology.

Therefore, the School of Information Science and Technology seeks to develop a sufficient level of knowledge and skill for students to be able to advance to the graduate school - so becoming advanced information system engineers, capable of identifying and solving problems on their own.

To achieve the above-mentioned objectives, the School of Information Science and Technology is looking for students who:

have a strong interest in information science, with the desire to avail themselves to contribute to the development of society through the attainment of knowledge in information science and technology.

Graduate School of International Studies Admission Policy

The Graduate School of International Studies was founded on the School of Foreign Studies, and the School of Japanese Studies. The graduate school is divided into the Department of International Studies, and the Department of Japanese Studies. Both of these departments offer courses at Master’s and Doctorate levels.
The Master’s courses encourage internationally-minded students, who already possess a competent knowledge of Japanese culture, to reach a high degree of specialized knowledge related to communities worldwide. Students are also expected to acquire a deep understanding of multicultural symbiosis, and to be actively engaged in various fields in both global and regional areas. Having successfully completed a relevant Master’s course, post-graduates can undertake a Doctoral course - which will provide them with an all-encompassing sweep in the sphere of modern international societies, and cultivate educated scholars and academics with a full understanding of the individual characteristics in each investigated culture.

Graduate School of Human Development Admission Policy

It could be justly claimed that the circumstances which are producing a “child development crisis”, are being universally aggravated, by today’s society.
This “crisis” appears in many forms, as various factors from all aspects of a child’s life affect one another, in complex ways. Therefore, some appropriate methods to deal with it must be immediately uncovered, before this issue would not only impair the individual’s lifelong development and their having a dignified lifestyle, but would also become a huge stumbling block towards the realization of a “mature coexistent society”, in the 21st century.
Consequently, the “child development crisis” is a critical and urgent problem of today, which has to be jointly addressed by governments, local communities, and schools alike.

Centred on the disciplines of Pedagogy, Subject pedagogy, Psychology, and Child-care and education, the Graduate School of Human Development conducts both theoretical and empirical research, and practical, and professional clinical education into the “child development crisis” - in all its aspects which can manifest itself in a child’s life. Together with our Lifespan Development Laboratory, the Graduate School of Human Development aims to foster experts who possess the ability to research, in combination with the necessary practical skills, to keenly analyze and suggest possible solutions to this daily confronted issue - in cooperation with local elementary schools, kindergartens, day-care centres, institutions, child support centres, and consultancy organizations.

To achieve the above-mentioned objectives, the Graduate School of Human Development is looking for students who:

have the basic knowledge and foreign language skills required for research in human development, and would like to deepen their specialized understanding of child development.

aim to become an expert engaged in development support in schools, nursery schools, or regional communities, and utilizing their acquired specialized knowledge and competence to help attend to the “child development crisis.”

Graduate School of Nursing & Health Admission Policy

The Graduate School of Nursing & Health aims to deepen our knowledge of the specialized field with a broad outlook, to cultivate the ability to think logically and the ability to research with higher quality, and to develop outstanding nursing researchers and educators who can take on leading roles in society, while also training professionals who have advanced specialty and practical skills and contribute to the world.
The Master’s program, in addition to a research course, provides courses for students who want to become Certified Nurse Specialists or Certified Nurse Administrators. Students can also qualify to take the National Board Examination for Midwives by completing elective courses in midwifery in the Women’s Health & Midwifery program.
The Doctoral program aims to produce outstanding findings in basic and applied nursing research that will contribute to raising the quality of nursing practice in nursing science.

Graduate School of Information Science and Technology Admission Policy

The Master’s courses in this school all aim to develop leading advanced information technology engineers, in order to meet the requirements caused by the shift in Japan, as high-value added industries became knowledge-based ones. In order to respond to this transfer, and also to the informatization of manufacturing technologies, the school has set educational objectives for each department. Therefore, the Department of Information Systems is designed so that students will study computer systems and software, information networks, and ubiquitous computing. The Department of Media Informatics program includes intelligent information processing, linguistic information processing, speech and visual information processing, and the production, processing, storage and utilization of information media. The Department of Systems Science offers tuition on mathematical systems, global environment systems, social systems, and biological systems. Through the study of these courses, students can acquire skills in cutting-edge technology and technical knowledge, alongside an aptitude for practical problem-solving. The Doctoral course is intended to promote academic research in and contribution to the development of information science and technology. In addition to this, the course aims to develop leading advanced information technology engineers and researchers who are capable of identifying and solving problems, by using their advanced technical knowledge of information science and technology.
